Carmelo Anthony officially retires

Carmelo Anthony has retired from the NBA. The former Nuggets player concludes a fantastic career after 19 years and as the leagueโ€™s ninth all-time leading scorer. Anthony announced his retirement by releasing an incredible video on his social channels.

I remember the days when I had nothing but a ball on a court and a big dream. Basketball was my outlet: I was determined. The community, the cities I proudly represented, and the fans who supported me throughout the journeyโ€”I will forever be grateful to those people and those places for making me Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony, who turns 39 next week, scored 28,289 points over 19 seasons with six different teams. Anthony did not play this past season, but played over 1,200 NBA games from 2003 to 2022 with the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers.

But now itโ€™s time to bid farewell to the courts where I made my name, to the game that has strengthened my purpose and my pride. Itโ€™s a bittersweet goodbye to the NBA. I am excited for what the future holds for me. When people ask me about my legacy, I say itโ€™s not just about what Iโ€™ve accomplished on the court or the awards that come to mind, because my story has always been about more than just basketball

My legacy, my children, lies within you. It is now time for you to carry the torch. Ki, follow your dreams and donโ€™t let anyone interfere. My legacy, now and forever, will continue in you, and I will always be proud of what you will accomplish. Peace
