The New York Knicks formally requested permission to speak to Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd about taking that same job in New York. The Mavericks rejected that request.
Over the last several days, Kidd emerged as a leading target for the Knicks. However, it was clear from the jump that Dallas would reject New York’s inquiries into hiring Kidd.
The Knicks were reportedly also rebuffed in efforts to speak to Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch and Houston Rockets head coach Ime Udoka. This means New York is likely to turn to a coach who is not currently under contract to fill the opening that was created when the team fired Tom Thibodeau.
