Jabari Smith Jr. and the Houston Rockets have agreed to a five-year, $125 million contract extension. The contract will reportedly feature no team or player options. Smith is represented by Β Wallace Prather.
Smith’s future with the Rockets has been uncertain as they have evaluated major trade options and also acquired Kevin Durant. Smith was the third overall pick in the 2022 draft out of Auburn behind Paolo Banchero and Chet Holmgren.Β
Last season, Smith averaged 12.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 30.1 minutes. Smith shot 35.4 percent on three-pointers. Smith was limited to 57 games due to a broken left hand and returned to a bench role following the emergence of Amen Thompson.
The Rockets have also signed Ime Udoka and Steven Adams to extensions, while also retaining Fred Van Fleet, Jae’Sean Tate, Aaron Holiday and Jeff Green in free agency before June 30th. The Rockets finished the regular season in second in the Western Conference and figure to be one of the main contenders to unseat the Oklahoma City Thunder.
