Celtics Require Offer ‘That Blows Them Out Of The Water’ To Trade Jaylen Brown, Derrick White

Celtics Require Offer 'That Blows Them Out Of The Water' To Trade Jaylen Brown, Derrick White

The Boston Celtics have successfully dipped below the second apron by trading away Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis and the first round came and went without another trade after they were linked with discussions involving a trade of either Jaylen Brown or Derrick White. Teams selecting in the top-10 of the draft reportedly were making offers for Brown leading to the draft.

“Never say never,” said Shams Charania when asked if the Celtics are done making major moves. “Most of their heavy lifting is done. They got out of the second apron by shedding $180 million. The calls and interest is certainly still coming in for Jaylen Brown and Derrick White.

“There’s a couple of other players in Sam Hauser and Anfernee Simons that at minimum if they want to continue to shed out of the luxury tax they could. There’s heavy interest in Jaylen Brown and Derrick White but a very high price threshold if anyone wants them”

Brown is entering Year 2 of his five-year, $285 million supermax extension. White is entering Year 1 of his four-year, $118 million contract extension signed in 2024.

“The preference is to not to trade them,” added Charania. “They’re key cogs of a championship team. But if you’re the Celtics, you have to at least listen. They’re listening. They have a high, high price threshold on both of those players.

“I’m told it would have to take an offer that blows them out of the water to consider moving either of those players. We’ll see if any of those offers come. They’re going to continue to monitor calls.”

Charania added that it is “more unlikely than likely” for Brown to be traded now that the first round has passed.
